Katherine Reeves

Associate Professor, Epidemiology
Family Research Scholar, 2014-15

Involvement:

Research:

Katherine Reeves focuses her research on modifiable risk factors for breast cancer, with the ultimate goal of reducing breast cancer morbidity and mortality. Specifically, Reeves’s research focuses on modifiable factors that may mediate breast cancer risk through hormonal pathways, including depression and/or antidepressant use, obesity and metabolic disease, and endocrine-disrupting chemicals such as bisphenol-A (BPA) or phthalates. During her Family Research Scholar year, Reeves prepared a grant application titled “The effect of BPA exposure on serum estrogenic activity in healthy women” to the National Institute of Environmental Health Science to evaluate if women exposed to BPA through their diet exhibit increased estrogenic activity in their bodies as a result; such effects would have important implications for promoting breast carcinogenesis. Reeves’ intended benefit of this research is to promote the health of American families, all of which are exposed to these environmental chemicals and many of whom are touched by breast cancer.
