CRF Celebrated Student Researchers at Annual Student Research Forum and Awards Reception

On May 2, 2019, the Center for Research on Families (CRF) celebrated student researchers at our annual Student Research Forum and Awards Reception. Over 40 students, mentors, and friends attended the event in the Commonwealth Honors College. The CRF Student Research Awards Program provides funding for undergraduate and graduate students as they work closely with faculty mentors on family related research, travel to conferences, and attend our methodology workshops. The CRF Graduate Student Grant Writing Program supports students in the development of successful graduate fellowship applications. At this year’s reception, the recipients of the 2019-20 Student Research Awards were announced and the new cohort of Graduate Student Grant Writing participants were recognized. Read more about the awardees here.

Several outstanding student award recipients from past years, including Rachel Haley, Alice Fiddian-Green, Ragini Malhotra, Melanna Cox, and Sanna Lokhandwala shared the findings of their CRF supported research. The students’ topics ranged from the effects of covert sexism on physical activity in girls, opioid use disorders among pregnant women and mothers, naps and memory processing in early childhood, chronic disease among Dominican Nationals and Dominican immigrants, and negotiating gendered childhoods and families in Delhi’s informal communities. Congratulations again to all of the new awardees and we look forward to hearing about their research next year!
