Linda Tropp (FRS 2009-10) Works with International Team to Determine Effective Means of Promoting Social Change

Linda Tropp (FRS 2009-10), professor of Social Psychology in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, worked alongside a team of 23 international researchers to examine what it takes for people to commit to taking action to promote social equality. The new research finds more mutual support for social change among advantaged and disadvantaged groups when inequality is actively addressed and the psychological needs of each group are met. Tropp says one next step is to help prepare members of advantaged groups to engage in difficult conversations about power relations and discrimination.
