Melinda Tarsi is a doctoral student in the Political Science program at UMass Amherst, studying with Professor Jesse Rhodes. She graduated from Western Connecticut State University in 2006 with a B.A. in political science and justice & law administration.
Her subfields of study are American politics and international relations, and her work - drawing on both quantitative methods and historical analysis - is in the broad research areas of American politics, social policy, and American political development. She is most interested in the ways in which American defense spending can function as domestic welfare spending, and the implications that this funding can have upon social and political inequality. This Methdological Studies Award provides her free tuition towards attending a CRF methodological workshop this summer on campus.
