Taking Leave to Provide Care

What if I need leave in order to provide full-time care for my family?

Leave Under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act

  • FFCRA will provide ⅔ of your regular pay for 12 weeks, up to a maximum of $12,000, if your child’s daycare/school is closed due to COVID-19 and you have no alternative care. If you need to take the FFCRA leave, MSP can help you navigate the process.

Massachusetts Society of Professors Work-Life Policies

  • MSP has negotiated with the administration to create policies around parental leave, sick leave, family medical leave, partner hiring, and other benefits that make it possible for faculty and librarians to have full lives as well as careers.  With changing gender roles and family forms, MSP has established that faculty recruitment and retention requires university support for work-life balance.

Family and Medical Leave Act

  • The FMLA entitles eligible employees of covered employers to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee had not taken leave.
