Mid-Career Post-Tenure Fellowships Awarded to Five UMass Amherst Faculty

 

The Office of Faculty Development is pleased to announce that Provost Tricia Serio has selected six UMass Amherst faculty to receive the Mid-Career Post-Tenure (MCPT) Fellowship for the 2023-2024 academic year: Associate Professors Gülru Çakmak, Laura Furlan, Amanda Marcotte, Lauren McCarthy, Jeff Parker, and Shawn Shimpach.

The purpose of this competitively awarded fellowship is to provide a research-intensive semester to Associate Professors whose service and teaching responsibilities have exceeded the norm. Award recipients will be provided with one semester of release from teaching responsibilities, department obligations, and college service in accordance with Article 15.16 of the collective bargaining agreement between UMass Amherst and the Massachusetts Society of Professors.

Laura M. Furlan - Associate Professor & Director of American Studies, English, College of Humanities & Fine Arts

Amanda Marcotte - Associate Professor, Student Development, College of Education

Lauren McCarthy - Associate Professor of Legal Studies and Political Science, Director of Legal Studies, College of Social & Behavioral Sciences

Jeff Parker - Associate Professor & MFA Program Director, English, College of Humanities & Fine Arts

Shawn Shimpach - Associate Professor, Communication, College of Social and Behavioral Sciences
