In July 2025, the University of Massachusetts Amherst joined with other colleges and universities in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) to participate in the Academic Leadership Development Program (ALDP).
Launched in 2017, the mission of the Mid-American Conference Academic Leadership Development Program is to identify, develop, prepare, and advance faculty as academic leaders in the Mid-American Conference universities. More information about the MAC-ALDP is available on their website.
Up to four (4) outstanding individuals will be selected each year to serve as UMass Amherst ALDP Fellows under the mentorship of the Associate Provost for Faculty Development.
Applications for the MAC ALDP Fellowship for the 2025-26 academic year are due by June 27, 2025.
After the program, ALDP Fellows will be able to:
- Articulate the complexity of the structure and operations within an institution and across institutions;
- Describe the impact of the external influences on the role of leaders in a higher education institution. This should include, but is not limited to, federal/state regulations and mandates, accreditation, and community influence;
- Identify best practices in academic leadership;
- Assess one’s own leadership potential and identify leadership pathways; and
- Communicate the importance of inclusive excellence.
