LEAD+: Telling Your Unit's Story with Contextualized Data
Hosted by Academic Human Resources and the Office of Faculty Development in collaboration with the Provost's Office
LEAD+ (Leadership Enhancement for Academic Departments) is a professional development and support program for heads/chairs and associate deans covering topics of common concern to department/unit leaders. It is offered jointly by the Academic Personnel Office and the Office of Faculty Development.
Leaders are increasingly asked to explain their unit’s performance using data—but having data is not the same as telling a clear, persuasive story. This session will help department heads/chairs and associate deans learn how to translate familiar metrics on student success, teaching, and research into narratives that resonate with decision-makers. Participants will learn to recognize and avoid common data pitfalls, such as overreliance on single metrics or lack of context, and to focus on what decision-makers need to know. The session emphasizes practical approaches to using departmental data more clearly, confidently, and strategically across a wide range of leadership conversations.
