Zoom

Hosted by Academic Human Resources and the Office of Faculty Development in collaboration with the Provost's Office

LEAD+ (Leadership Enhancement for Academic Departments) is a professional development and support program for heads/chairs and associate deans covering topics of common concern to department/unit leaders. It is offered jointly by Academic Human Resources and the Office of Faculty Development.

In Matters Arising the Provost will visit to provide a follow-up on merit raises for non-unit academic administrators (inclusive of chairs, heads, and associate deans).

At UMass Amherst, we remain steadfast in our commitment to embedding and sustaining the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) across our employment practices, policies, and campus culture. Our goal is to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, faculty, and staff, while promoting an organizational culture that reflects our shared values and supports equitable access to programs and services.

In light of a rapidly evolving political and educational landscape, and the increasing risks associated with equity-centered work, we have initiated strategic conversations with the UMass System Office and engaged external consultants to help us assess and strengthen our approach. These efforts are designed to ensure that we remain aligned with our values while navigating legal, political, and institutional challenges.

This session will provide an update on:

  • Insights from our ongoing campus-wide and system-level discussions
  • The role of the DEI Working Group, which includes representatives from students, faculty, staff, and administrators
  • Our approach to strategic DEI decision-making, including risk assessment and tolerance
  • Compliance considerations in light of unchanged federal and state laws

We invite you to join us for a transparent and collaborative dialogue focused on sustaining our DEIA commitments and preparing for strategic readiness. Your voice is essential as we explore what matters most, identify non-negotiables, and determine how best to support our campus community during these uncertain times.

What you will gain:

  • A clearer understanding of current DEIA challenges and opportunities
  • Insight into institutional strategy and risk tolerance
  • A space to share your concerns and ideas for support and innovation

Presenters

  • Wilmore Webley, Senior Vice Provost for Equity and Inclusion
  • Michelle Budig, Executive Deputy Provost

This session is open to all heads/chairs and associate deans. Please email @email with questions and/or for more information.
