First Year, First Friday: Renewing Spring Courses through Reflecting on the Fall
Hosted by the Office of Faculty Development in collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning
Congrats! With nearly one semester of teaching at UMass Amherst behind you, let’s take a moment and reflect on your accomplishments with the goal of building on your successes in your fall course(s). We’ll look at your learning goals and reflect on how they communicated your intentions of significant learning. We’ll reflect on your assessments, and how they helped you make inferences on student learning, and on the learning activities you used in class and how they encouraged students to engage with the material. Through these individual and group reflections, you’ll leave this workshop with changes or new approaches to your course that you could implement next semester.
Facilitators:
Beth Lisi, Assistant Director and Lecturer, Center for Teaching and Learning
Colleen Kuusinen, Educational Developer and Lecturer, Center for Teaching and Learning
First Year, First Friday is a monthly forum for new and early career faculty to learn best practices and connect with colleagues. Each month, faculty from across campus gather in person for a facilitated session on a particular area of interest. Come join us for presentations by knowledgeable colleagues and discussion. Coffee, tea and refreshments are served, and time is set aside for conversation and community.
