Rebecca Dingo
Senior Fellow and Associate Director, Professor of English
Dr. Rebecca Dingo provides leadership in the creation, implementation, and evaluation of OFD programs that support faculty and librarians as writers and researchers at all stages of the research and writing process—from idea to publication.
Dingo is also a Professor of English. She is a recognized national and international scholar who has pushed transnational studies into the forefront of rhetorical and Writing Studies. She has given workshops, seminars, and lectures in the US, South Africa, Lebanon, and Belgium on feminist approaches in rhetoric and writing, including faculty writing support and development.
She is the author of Networking Arguments: Rhetoric, Transnational Feminism, and Public Policy Writing (which won the W. Ross Winterowd Award), the editor of The Megarhetorics of Global Development, and co-author of Beyond Recovery: Reckoning with Race, Nation, Imperialism, and Exceptionalism in Feminist Rhetorical Theory (under contract with University of Pittsburgh Press). Her work has been well-cited not only in rhetoric, composition, and communication studies, but also across other disciplines and sub-disciplines including feminist international politics, global education studies, feminist studies, and disability studies. She has also engaged in work that has public value and, for example, was invited by the United Kingdom Parliament of International Development Committee to offer a policy memo that comments on how their disability programs might be more inclusive.
At UMass, she has served as a Chancellor’s Leadership Fellow and Faculty Fellow (2022-2023) in the Office of Faculty Development and Chaired the University Writing Committee (2020-2022). She has also participated in the HERs leadership academy and Building Academic Leaders in the Humanities program through Five Colleges Inc. Through these roles, she assessed current writing supports and needs and developed new and innovative scholarly writing programming and supports, including the new OFD Scholars program.
