University Museum of Contemporary Art Student Employee Application

Museum Visitor Attendants

Fall 2023

The University Museum of Contemporary Art at the UMass Fine Arts Center  is looking for outgoing, energetic, dependable students with an interest in contemporary art. Since we have a very small staff, we rely on student employees to greet visitors. Museum Visitor Attendants represent the museum as they welcome visitors, make them feel comfortable in the museum, inform them about the exhibitions, and ensure the safety of the art.

Visitor Attendants must be attentive, aware, and alert. Attendants safeguard the  art on display and monitor the security of the gallery space. They will learn — and apply — the rules of etiquette for museum visitors. In addition, Attendants assist at exhibition openings and events.

We are open to the public Tuesday – Friday, 11:00 – 4:30;  Saturday/Sunday 12:00 – 4:00  and some evenings.

UMCA is open only when UMass is in session.

Hours are variable; approx. 5 to 10 hours per week. Starting pay is $15.00 per hour.

Applicants must have Work/Study.

Art or Art History experience is helpful but is not a requirement. Applicants must have excellent social skills and enjoy working as a team member.

We usually have a roster of 12 to 16 student Visitor Attendants. Two to three Visitor Attendants work each shift, depending on the exhibition on view.  We are looking for students who can work at least one or two weekday shifts. You must also be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends. If you sign up to work a shift, we rely on you to be here!

Applicants must have Work/Study.  This is part of your financial aid.
