Fine Arts Center Spotlight for April 21, 2010 > Aspen Santa Fe Ballet at the FAC Concert HallAspen Santa Fe Ballet at the FAC Concert Hall Innovative Dance Troupe Performs on April 30 Described by the New York Times as "a breath of fresh air," Aspen Santa Fe Ballet stands out as a model of what a small ballet company should be with its "musicality, athleticism, and technique-conscious delivery." Its versatile and gifted troupe of ten young dancers perform an eclectic repertoire of pieces by some of the world's foremost choreographers. This sophisticated company performs lively programs enjoyable for all audiences.
This performance is an "Arts Give Back" event: patrons are asked to bring a new or gently-used item of professional dress for Dress for Success, a Springfield organization that promotes economic self-sufficiency for disadvantaged women. More…. | 10th-Avenue Juniper Literary Festival Events Set for April 23 and 24 On Friday and Saturday, April 23 and 24, the University of Massachusetts Amherst MFA Program for Poets and Writers' Juniper Initiative is sponsoring a series of literary events at venues across the Amherst area. The festival, which celebrates the 10th anniversary of the journal jubilat, is cosponsored by jubilat, the Fine Arts Center, the University Museum of Contemporary Art , Amherst Books, and The Valley Advocate. Events are made possible by the generous support of support of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the University of Massachusetts Amherst Arts Council, Department of English, Vice Provost of Research and Engagement, and the College of Humanities & Fine Arts. Illustration by Antonio Frasconi. | Arbor Day Celebration Tour and Lecture on April 27 On Tuesday, April 27 the University of Massachusetts Amherst will celebrate Arbor Day with two free public events. Starting at 1:30 PM, a walking tour called Arts in the Arboretum will begin on the western side of the Campus Center Pond. At 7:30 PM, in Bowker Auditorium, National Geographic Live! Speaker Dr. Nalini Nardkarni, winner of the 2010 National Science Board award for public service will give a lecture entitled "Between Earth and Sky--Life in the Tree Tops: Three Decades of Forest Canopy Research." More.... | 2010-2011 FAC Season Preview Sneak Peak Lineup to be Announced in Mid-May The Fine Arts Center has a great lineup of performing and visual artists for the 2010-2011 season. Details are being finalized now and the Preview brochure will be mailed in mid-May. At that time, you'll also be able to order tickets by downloading an online form.
We've organized discounted ticket "packages" that will appeal to the broad tastes of FAC patrons. There will be a World Music package, a Dance package, a Family package, a Theater package, a Jazz package, and a Classical music package.

Keep an eye out for the brochure and be sure to check www.fineartscenter.com in mid-May! | Kenichi Ebina Shares His Dance Culture with High School Students Japanese Dancer Participates in the FAC's Arts in Education Program Before his Concert Hall performance, world-renowned Hip Hop dancer Kenichi Ebina taught a class for the Amherst Regional High School Dance program. A self-taught Hip Hop artist imbued with Japanese flavor, his dance style bridges the European and Asian global interaction that is happening throughout the arts. Through this class, he successfully introduced students to the world of dance by using elements from current youth culture.
The UMass Fine Arts Center's Arts in Education program helps provide accessible events for teenagers and other school-aged children. It is essential that arts remain central to our youth's education. Whimsical puppetry and evocative original music will bring a new sense of appreciation to stories that have delighted several generations.
