Join the UMass Amherst DC Alumni Network to honor fallen heroes in the Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, sponsored by Wreaths Across America.
Our group will meet at the gates near the Visitor's Center at 8:00 a.m. under the UMass banner. Please remember that this event is outdoors and dress appropriately. The schedule is as follows:
8:00 a.m.: Arlington National Cemetery Gates open to public.
8:30 a.m.: Ceremonial Wreaths Across America Truck Parade arrives at Arlington Main entrance (time is approximate).
11:00 a.m.: Wreath laying ceremony at President Kennedy's grave.
11:30 a.m.: Wreath laying ceremony at the USS Battleship Main Mast.
12:00 p.m.: Wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
After each person finishes placing one or two wreaths, participants are free to leave, or stay for the formal ceremonies.
Due to limited parking available within Arlington Cemetery and the high number of volunteers expected, we highly encourage all who can to take the Metro Rail to the Arlington Cemetery Station on the Blue Line. In addition to the Arlington Cemetery stop (Blue Line), pedestrian accessible gates are a short walk from Rosslyn (Orange Line) and both Pentagon and Pentagon City (Yellow and Blue Lines). At this time, the Cemetery has advised us that POV's will not be allowed to enter the Cemetery itself unless they have a valid ANC Family Pass or a valid Handicap Pass. Free parking up to 1:00 p.m. will be available at the Cemetery's Visitor Pay Parking lot for up to about 400 vehicles. Other parking will be available within walking distances at the North and South Parking Lot areas of the Pentagon, at the Navy Annex and at Ft. Myer near the Chapel Gate.
