Workshop: 'What to Do When Graduate Students Say #MeToo '
April 4, 2018
Room: Events Hall 160 West
One of the biggest problems facing graduate students experiencing the effects of sexual misconduct is the drastic imbalance of power within the academic environment. Power dynamics affect reporting rates, outcomes, and enable retaliation that can drastically alter students’ career prospects.
Our mentors and advisors can have huge positive impacts on the student experience around reporting and moving forward after experiencing sexual misconduct or violence. Spend some time with the GWIS #Safeatwork Campaign Team examining the infrastructural and cultural aspects of sexual misconduct and violence and the related reporting processes from your students’ point of view, and work with us to craft new practices that support all students.
