Workshop: Oral History Crash Course
November 30, 2016
10:00 am-5:00 pm
This one-day workshop is designed for those interested in learning oral history skills, techniques and practices with other members of the community, museum professionals, and trained oral historians from the Oral History Lab and Public History Program.
This workshop introduces participants to oral history as an approach to documenting the past. Oral history is a term used to describe recorded interviews with first hand witnesses to past events. Typically conducted by an informed interviewer, oral history can produce a number of different outcomes useful for public history and other research. Over the course of a day long workshop, this program will define oral history, describe several different approaches to oral history interviewing, and help participants consider how best to ethically preserve and document their own interviews.
