Peter Baehr, professor and head of the department of sociology and social policy at Lingnan University in Hong Kong, speaks on "Ethnic Cleansing, Class Cleansing: From Hannah Arendt to Victor Zaslavsky."

This talk compares two major thinkers on the topic of mass violence. Arendt is the most influential theorist of totalitarianism against whom all successors must be measured. Zaslavsky extended Arendt’s argument on ethnic cleansing to class cleansing.

Sponsored by the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies and the History Department, this lecture will illuminate important aspects of mass violence in the 20th century.
