“Makers” have been around since the beginning of time, but it was not until the early 2000’s when the maker movement began.  Since then, makerspaces, maker fairs and fab labs have evolved, leading to the question, “Is there a place for this in our schools?” Should maker spaces be integrated into the educational system and what benefits can they offer our students?   In this interactive Tuesday Talk, Donna Taylor, Assistant Director of Professional Development at WPI’s STEM Education Center, will take participants on a “maker-space tour” visiting industry, university, as well as secondary and elementary schools. Participants will discuss the cognitive and social emotional learning that students tap into as they journey through the development of a product.  In addition, Donna will identify key elements of high quality STEM education that we can encourage from our educators even if these “spaces” are not available.
