University of Massachusetts Amherst Fall 2016
German and Scandinavian Studies presents Sigrid Bauschinger.

Apart from the Manns, no one family has influenced modern German culture
more than the Cassirers. Prosperity in trade and industry brought them
into the world of art and philosophy, pedagogy and medicine, literature
and theater, until they were forced to emigrate by Hitler. Sigrid
Bauschinger tells the story of this uniquely gifted family for the first
time.

Sigrid Bauschinger is Wolfgang Paulsen Professor Emerita in German at
UMass Amherst. Her recent books include “Else Lasker-Schüler. Biographie,”
(Wallstein Verlag, 2004) and a commented edition of the letters of
Rainer Maria Rilke and Eva Cassierer (Wallstein, 2009).
