The series will feature a performance by fellow alumnus, Henry St. Claire Fredericks '63 who developed his musical style at UMass and honed his skills playing the local Amherst night spots. Now known as internationally recognized and Grammy-winning blues musician Taj Mahal, he weaves African, Caribbean, Latin and Hawaiian music into his jazz for a truly global sound. Taj has redefined blues music during his 40+ year career, playing among legends like Otis Redding, Muddy Waters, Ry Cooder, the Temptations and more.
