Zakir Hussain, a tabla maestro of formidable knowledge and practice returns with a new project exploring world music with some of world’s greatest percussionists working within the genre.
Honored in 2018 with SFJAZZ’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Hussain is described by The New York Times as “a living genius.” Hussain is consistently brilliant and exciting in his performances and connecting with audiences that has established him as a National Treasure in his own country, India, and as one of India’s reigning cultural ambassadors. Widely considered the chief architect of the contemporary world music movement, Hussain’s contribution to world music has been unique, with many historic collaborations with artists as diverse as George Harrison, YoYo Ma, Joe Henderson, Van Morrison, Airto Moreira, Pharoah Sanders, Billy Cobham, Mark Morris, Rennie Harris, and the Kodo drummers.
