JACINTO LUCAS PIRES is an author, playwright, filmmaker, screenwriter, and musician. His novel, The True Actor, won the 2013 Domingos da Silva Teixeira Distinguished Literature Award. He is the author of two other novels, several plays, a travelogue, Livro usado numa viagem ao Japão (A Book of Travels Around Japan, 2001), and three short story collections, including Assobiar em público (Whistling in Public, 2008), winner of the David Mourão-Ferreira Prize for European Literature in 2008. His stories have been translated into Spanish, English, French, Norwegian, and Croatian. Pires regularly writes for daily newspapers and magazines, and plays in the band Os Quais. He lives in Lisbon.
