If you take pictures with your phone, send emails, write papers, or doodle — congratulations, you’re a copyright owner. And, if you take pictures, forward emails, quote works, download music, or hum a song, guess what? You’re using a copyrighted work, relying on fair use or another copyright exception. What do you need to know to teach, create art, write papers, or simply live in a world in which practically everything we create and use is copyrighted?
