Amer F. Ahmed, Director of International Teaching and Faculty Development at UMass Amherst, will be the featured speaker in “Addressing Islamophobia: Dispelling Myths to Confront Hate and Discrimination.”
The post-9/11 era in the U.S. has exposed a significant degree of prejudice and bigotry towards Muslim people. This climate has resulted in a spike in hate crimes directed towards Muslims. Meanwhile, there continues to be widespread growth of racial profiling and bullying throughout the country. This program will benefit participants interested in learning more about Islam and Islamophobia while highlighting what we can do to confront challenges we face in the months and years ahead.
