INFORMS Speaker Series: Chaitra Gopalappa
November 18, 2016
10:30 am-12:00 pm
Integrative Learning Center
UMass Amherst Campus
Chaitra Gopalappa, assistant professor of industrial engineering, will discuss her work in developing decision-analyses models under evidence gaps generated by the complexity in disease dynamics.
National and global strategic plans for disease prevention and control are extremely critical as they drive allocation of resources to intervention programs across national- to local- levels. However, these decisions are often time-sensitive and decision-makers are pressed to take action even if complete evidence are not yet available. Gopalappa's work will relate to the analyses of the White House U.S. National HIV/AIDS Strategy and the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Action Plan for Non Communicable Diseases, conducted in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and WHO. She will also discuss some of her future research interests in this area.
Gopalappa is a joint appointee with the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and Commonwealth Honors College.
This event is organized by the Student Chapter of INFORMS, UMass Amherst, as a part of its INFORMS Speaker Series.
The Integrative Learning Center is located in the center of campus, between the campus pond and the Campus Center.
