Information Meeting: Six Weeks in Ghana - Reciprocal Learning and Service
February 15, 2019
6:00 pm-7:30 pm
Library, W.E.B. Du Bois
UMass Amherst Campus
Please join us to find out about how you can learn and intern in Ghana, West Africa next summer (June/July). All undergraduate and graduate majors are encouraged to join.
Star Service & Study Abroad (SSSA) was founded by seasoned travelers and Five College alumnae, Nialena Ali (Mount Holyoke College, senior in international relations) and Brittni Howard (Ph.D. student in anthropology at UMass).
SSSA provides students with the opportunity to work alongside its community and research partners. SSSA works with multiple Ghanaian humanitarian organizations on their projects ranging from learning disabilities, anti child trafficking, environmentalism education (recycling and community clean-up), public health, and education for all campaigns.
A central part of your experience with us will be the learning component that sheds light on the socio-political events that contribute to local problems, challenges students in self-reflexivity practices, explores the various consequences of (neo)colonialism, voluntourism, and international aid.
With its holistic approach, students have an enhanced learning experience and the community has more capable and informed volunteers.
SSSA directors and students from the 2017 and 2018 cohorts will be available to answer questions and share their experiences.
