Holyoke, MA - Post-Oil City: The History of the Urban Future

The Department of Landscape Architecture & Regional Planning invites you to a LARP alumni night and the only U.S. showing of this international exhibition. The Post-Oil City exhibition includes models, computer animations, video clips and documentation exploring eleven innovative urban projects in Asia, Africa, and America and their connections to utopias of the past.
The exhibition demonstrates positive, possible, contextualized and sustainable answers to the challenges posed by climate change, a limited supply of fossil fuels, economic recession and global systemic crisis. “Post-Oil City” is an international planning and landscape architecture exhibit, originating in Germany and shown at selected sites in South Africa, Canada, Ethiopia, Japan, and India.
Featured speakers include:
- Douglas Marshall, UMass Facilities Planning, announcing the new INTEGRATED DESIGN BUILDING that will house LARP
- Elisabeth Hamin, Department Head, on the status and future of LARP
- Robert Feldman, Dean of the College of Social and Behavior Sciences, on the outlook for LARP and the University
- Mayor Alex Morse, of Holyoke, on the future of Holyoke
Also on display - graduate student studio projects for the proposed Integrated Design Building.
Dancing to LIVE MUSIC by the Rick Murnane Band featuring Nick Dines, Professor Emeritus, on drums!
