HerbFest 2013 is an annual celebration of herbs, spices, and medicinal plants.  This free event, sponsored by students in the class Herbs, Spices, and Medicinal Plants, is the concluding event for the semester and features student demonstrations and presentations on a wide variety topics related to the history, culture, and traditional and modern uses of herbs, spices, and medicinal plants.   A display of popular herb plants is a major focus of HerbFest.

Attendees can visit student projects to try free samples of herb-flavored foods,
see herbal crafts, learn about medicinal benefits, and acquire herb plants for
gardens or window sills.  In previous years, students have displayed such items
as herbal candles, cookies, curries, and cosmetics along with a variety of
herbal teas and health care products to demonstrate the amazing versatility of
culinary and medicinal plants. One UMass graduate student summarizing the
HerbFest experience said, “At HerbFest you see all kinds of things that you
never knew could be homemade, soaps, massage oils, … and all the free samples are great.”
