Alam Khan, son of the legendary Sarode Maestro Ali Akbar Khan continues the purity of his father’s musical style while adding his own individual touch as a 21st century musician. Trained at a young age to live and learn in the traditional Guru-Disciple parampara (lineage), Alam maintains the reverence given to playing classical ragas in his solo concerts in prestigious music festivals in India and in the U.S. On occasion, he stretches his instrumentation to collaborate with a wide array of musicians in diverse genres- such as A.E.S Collective, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Beats Antique. Accompanying him on the drums will be master percussionist Nitin Mitta, one of the most sought after tabla players in the world music scene. Mitta has the rare ability to combine technical virtuosity with spontaneity, tonal clarity and has a highly developed sense of melodic nuances.

Audience members are invited to a pre-concert talk at 7p.m. in Bowker Auditorium.

Enjoy a pre-show dinner at a special rate in the Blue Wall, UMass Campus Center (across from Bowker.) Co-sponsored with UMass Dining Services.
