Fall 2016 SPP Faculty Colloquium Series: Erin Baker
September 19, 2016
12:00 pm-1:15 pm
UMass Amherst Campus
Baker’s talk, “Finding Common Ground When Experts Disagree: An Application to Publically Funded Energy Technology R&D Portfolios,” will discuss a new approach to support decision making, especially public decision making, when there is significant disagreement among scientists or other experts. This approach eliminates bad alternatives, and identifies actions which are good regardless of the individual expert judgment.
Professor Baker’s research applies operations research methods to environmental and energy policy. She has been described as a scholar on the “cutting edge” for her research on the role played by uncertainty in climate change policy. As director of the UMass Wind Energy IGERT, Baker leads a multidisciplinary effort to understand the technical and policy constraints on the development of wind farms, and also leads the Energy, Environment, and Economic Decision-Making Lab on campus. She is the past recipient of a prestigious National Science Foundation CAREER Award.
All talks in the SPP Faculty Colloquium are free and open to the public. Brownbag lunches are welcome. For additional information, go to www.masspolicy.org or contact Susan Newton (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Thompson Hall is located at 620 Hicks Way on the UMass Amherst campus.
