Avital Sagalyn: A Life of Exploration, researched and curated by a team of UMass Art History students, explores the range of Sagalyn’s work and rich cultural history. While painting in New York and Paris in the 1950s, she was mentored and befriended by some of the 20th century’s most iconic artists. Sagalyn describes her artistic process as one of discovery, paring subject matter to its core essence, and revealing an “immaterial element” of emotional weight or buoyancy.
