You’re teaching a successful class session. Students seem engaged. They take notes. You’re on fire. But then later you discover students didn’t learn as much as you’d hoped. Students can experience difficulty processing what’s covered in a given class period for a variety of reasons: how the content was organized; the density of information; confusion over what is important to know for an assessment; or limited opportunities to do something with the information in class. In short, students often benefit from more explicit lecture design structures and strategies.

In this hands-on workshop, we will:

   • Discuss how to make your lecture objectives more clear to students;
   • Explore class session structures and strategies supported by the science of learning;
   • Apply to our lectures what we know about directing student attention; and
   • Commit to trying out one of the new teach techniques introduced by the CTL staff and workshop participants.

This workshop will be led by CTL consultants Beth Lisi and Brian Baldi.
