Join us as Justin Payan (PhD student in the College of Information and Computer Sciences) presents his research into a reviewer assignment algorithm that is both efficient and fair.  The approach aims to find a round-robin allocation within a 4+epsilon factor of the best utilitarian social welfare over any round-robin allocation, a type of allocation which always satisfies the envy-free up to one item fairness criterion. The algorithm achieves the goals of efficiency and fairness in practice, but in his talk Justin highlights an important theoretical limitation and discusses some ideas for its resolution.
