An entertaining romantic comedy whose score ranges from classical references to the most up-to-date musical styles of the early 1960s. This last film of Slatan Dudow—who worked with Bertolt Brecht and Hanns Eisler on the 1932 communist classic Kuhle Wampe—ran into trouble due to its stylized vision and depictions of nudity and consumerism.

This musical comedy revolves around the attempts of a famous producer—the great Kruse—to create a successful musical revue film. With clever references to Hollywood films, it exemplifies a push to compete with the West’s biggest studios and make box-office hits to appeal to GDR audiences and bring in revenue. Shot at great expense in Totalvision, the GDR version of Cinemascope.
