International Scholars Series: Becoming More Culturally Aware in Your Teaching Style

Are you concerned with making your classroom welcoming to students from a variety of cultures, but are not sure what that means in a practical sense? This interactive workshop will introduce a tool to help you analyze your teaching style. You will have time to redesign a lesson for a class you are teaching now (or one you might teach in the future) so that you can leave the session with some new teaching strategies to put into action!

  • Identify the role of culture and cultural differences for teaching and learning.
  • Adopt a strength-based approach to cultural differences.
  • Redesign a lesson that balances different cultural norms related to learning and draws on the cultural strengths students bring to the classroom.

Come for coffee, tea and pastries and to build community with other international faculty, postdocs, and grad students. You don't have an international background but are interested in the topic? Come join us!

Co-sponsored by TEFD and the Graduate School Office of Professional Development.
