Brooke Hauser is Editor in Chief and Opinion Editor of the Daily Hampshire Gazette, based in Northampton, Massachusetts. She is also the author of two books, most recently Enter Helen: The Invention of Helen Gurley Brown and the Rise of the Modern Single Woman, a biography of the iconic Cosmopolitan editor and winner of the National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Award for Best Nonfiction Book. Her first book, The New Kids: Big Dreams and Brave Journeys at a High School for Immigrant Teens, won the American Library Association’s 2012 Alex Award. A longtime journalist, she has written for The New York Times, the New Yorker's "Page-Turner," the Los Angeles Times, Marie Claire, and Allure, among other publications. Originally from Miami, Florida, Hauser now lives in western Massachusetts, where she has taught nonfiction writing at Smith College.
