The Afro-Braiding and Hair Cutting Contest celebrates hair braiding and cutting tradition/custom. Participants will have three hours to work on models’ hair and present their designs to a panel of industry judges. Contestants will be judged on creativity, subject matter, use of materials, technicality, and originality.

During the competition, the audience will enjoy a showcase of local services, trivia activities, and films to learn about the history of hair braiding, hair care techniques, and products.

We are looking for 3-5 hair braiders and 3-5 hair cutters (barbers) who are students at UMass or any of the other Five Colleges schools. Students are highly encouraged to register for this opportunity.

Registration deadline is March 2, 2018. Register at mxcc@sacl.umass.edu

Contact: 413-883-4219 through text, or @mxccumass on Instagram for questions and registration.
