UMass Amherst’s Title IX Policy and Grievance Procedures and the Title IX Policy Hearing Procedures as administered by the EOA Office.
Title IX at UMass Amherst
Title IX at UMass Amherst protects against unlawful discrimination based on sex, sex-based harassment and retaliation by students, employees, or third parties who are participating or attempting to participate in the University’s education program or activity. Many campus resources (including counseling, advocacy and medical care) are available to support you, even if you do not formally report an incident.

LGBTQIA+ Protections
Due to a recent court decision, the University returned to the 2020 version of the University’s Title IX Policy and Grievance Procedures. There are now two University policies that prohibit discrimination based on sex.
The Title IX Policy and Grievance Procedures apply to formal complaints of sexual harassment as defined by the United States Department of Education’s Title IX regulation. All other forms of sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, and sex-based discrimination not covered by the Title IX Policy are covered by the University’s Policy Against Discrimination, Harassment, and Related Interpersonal Violence and its corresponding Prohibited Discrimination and Harassment Resolution Procedures.
All forms of sex-based discrimination and harassment that had been prohibited by our policies, whether the Title IX Policy or the Policy Against Discrimination, Harassment, and Related Interpersonal Violence, remain prohibited. If you feel you have experienced such discrimination or harassment, you can make a report to the UMass Amherst Equal Opportunity and Access Office.

Pregnant & Parenting Student Resources
Title IX protects students who are pregnant or parenting from discrimination in the educational environment.
