2022 Campus Safety and Violence Prevention Annual Report
In 2020, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts enacted “An Act Relative to Sexual Violence on Higher Education Campuses”. This statute has become known as the “2021 Campus Sexual Assault Law” (M.G.L. Ch. 6, 168D-168E) which requires institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to submit the "Campus Safety and Violence Prevention Survey” on an annual basis.
The data that follows was submitted in December 2022 to the State of Massachusetts Department of Higher Education for the previous calendar year, as required under the statute M.G.L. c. 6, § 168E(q), enacted by St. 2020, c. 337, § 1. 1) The were 11 informal complaints as shown in Section III. This does not match the combined total of outcomes of the 11 formal complaints in Sections IV. and V. which is 6. The remaining 5 are open cases.
2) In Section VII. there is a reporting anomaly with the online survey because it counted the same case twice. The same employee that was found responsible was also subjected to discipline but it added the two as separate questions and added them together to get 2. The survey added all items with a set formula which makes it impossible to change the total back to 1.
