What We Do
The Equal Opportunity Office is committed to ensuring UMass Amherst is free from harassment and discrimination. Equal Opportunity administers the University's Policy Against Discrimination, Harassment, and Related Interpersonal Violence, the Title IX Policy and Procedures, and the Affirmative Action and Non-Discrimination Policy.
Equal Opportunity conducts investigations in accordance with the Grievance Procedures and the Title IX Policy and Procedures to address allegations of harassment or discrimination based on protected civil rights, as well as, allegations of retaliation for filing a complaint. The Equal Opportunity Office monitors compliance, with state and federal civil rights legislation. This includes ensuring compliance with Title IX, which prohibits discrimination and harassment on the basis of sex in any federally funded educational program or activity. William D. Brady, Vice Chancellor & Chief Human Resources Officer, is the Interim Title IX Coordinator for the Amherst Campus. The Title IX Coordinator serves as the Chair of the UMass Amherst Title IX Coordination Team which oversees and consults on Title IX related reports, complaints, Title IX assessments, programming and training on Title IX related matters to the campus.
Any person may report sex discrimination, sexual violence, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and other sexual misconduct including sexual harassment (whether or not the person reporting is the person alleged to be the victim of conduct that could constitute sex discrimination or sexual harassment), in person, by mail, by telephone, or by electronic mail, to the Title IX Coordinator & Vice Chancellor Brady via the contact information below. A report to Mr. Brady may be made at any time (including during non-business hours) by using his email, telephone number or mail.
