About Me

Jeff (a.k.a. JT) Larkin is a PhD student at UMass Amherst in the Itter Forest Dynamics Lab. He earned his B.Sc. at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Environmental, Conservation, and Evolutionary Biology and M.Sc. at UMass Amherst (King Lab) in Forest Resources. Jeff’s M.Sc. thesis research focused on understanding eastern whip-poor-will response to forest management. Following his M.Sc., Jeff worked for MassWildlife as a habitat biologist where he planned public and private lands habitat management projects. During this time, he also became a Society of American Foresters Candidate Certified Forester and Massachusetts Licensed Forester. In his dissertation research, Jeff explores novel ways to incorporate remote sensing technologies, such as LiDAR to inform forestry and wildlife habitat management.
