Fine-scale shallow water movements of White Sharks (Carcharodon carcharias) on Cape Cod, Massachusetts
The white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) is the largest predatory fish in the world. As white shark populations in the Atlantic Northwest rebuild, a predictable seasonal aggregations takes place along Cape Cod, Massachusetts. White sharks pose a risk to public safety as human and white shark interactions are on the rise. Information on the fine-scale spatiotemporal use of shallow water habitat is necessary to inform managers and the public. We will quantify the movements of white sharks using a dense array of acoustic receivers at beaches along Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Using virtual positioning, sharks will be tracked in water depths of 1-10 m and movements will be associated to the abiotic and biotic conditions present.
