Monitoring Nest Success to Investigate Avian Productivity at Solar Photovoltaic Facilities in Massachusetts and New York

In response to climate change, solar energy is rapidly expanding across the Northeastern U.S., with state programs encouraging the deployment of photovoltaic (PV) solar facilities in particular. Many bird species are in decline, so it is vital to understand how anthropogenic changes like this are impacting their populations. My research will focus on evaluating the nesting success of birds within PV facilities to identify characteristics of solar facilities that affect avian reproductive success.
