Back to calendarA Portrait of the Writer as Citizen: Ru Freeman in conversation with Jim Hicks

Ru Freeman
The Sri Lankan-born novelist, essayist, and activist Ru Freeman, in conversation with Jim Hicks, Executive Editor of the Massachusetts Review. Porochista Khak- pour calls Freeman “a truth-teller, a true fighter, and a loving creator”—someone who reminds us of who we are, and what we still need to do. Inspired by the publi- cation of Freeman’s new essay collection, the evening’s conversation will focus on its central themes: inheritance, citizenship, and what it takes to live a creative life.
Sponsored by the Massachusetts Review, the UMass Comparative Literature program, the department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, the MFA Program for Creative Writing, and department of History.
