Leslie Leonard, a third-year English and American Studies PhD Candidate, has been awarded an Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship. This prestigious award is in the amount of $2,000 with an invitation to be in residence at the Massachusetts Historical Society for at least four weeks of research.
Leonard's work traces the complicated discourse of responsibility, duty, and community in the American nineteenth century, particularly as it impacted issues of abolition, domesticity, philosophy, law, and public welfare.
