Last fall, the English Department rolled out a new suite of undergraduate specializations, 3-5 courses each and open to students from across campus, that package our diverse course offerings in ways that can lend greater coherence to one’s studies, add credentials to one’s profile, and help carve paths through English into the world beyond.
Some of the specializations, like American Studies and Creative Writing, have been around for awhile; one of them, Professional Writing and Technical Communication, is actually a Certificate program. Others, like Environmental Humanities and Teaching the English Language Arts, are new. There’s even an Individualized Option.
Student input has helped us grow our older specializations and develop new ones. And one student helped us design an 18’ x 24” color poster for display around campus, meant to highlight the new line-up of specializations. The poster was designed and produced by Julia Dickman, an undergraduate student at UMass Amherst pursuing the Study and Practice of Writing (SPOW) specialization.
Check out the specializations and poster! and help us spread the word!
