Elena Kalodner-Martin, PhD candidate in Composition and Rhetoric, recently published a column in Intercom, the Society for Technical Communication's magazine. The column, titled, "Workplace preparation or Social Justice Work? Joining Goals in a Technical and Professional Communication Classroom" explores one way for technical communication instructors to prepare students for their post-grad careers through a social justice pedagogy. This work is based on the approach Kalodner-Martin took to teaching and guiding students through grant proposals in English 379 (Intro to Professional Writing).

Kalodner-Martin’s research is at the intersection of the rhetoric of health and medicine, technical communication, and feminist studies. Her dissertation theorizes patient narratives on social media as a form of technical and technological expertise. She currently teaches writing in the disciplines courses in the College of Information and Computer Sciences.
