English Majors! Apply for a Grant of up to $3,000 to Help Defray the Costs of Studying Abroad, Participating in an Internship, or Buying a New Computer!

The English Department is pleased to announce an expanded English Opportunity Fund to help undergraduate English majors pursue projects that enhance their academic experience. Eligible students are invited to propose awards of up to $3,000 to purchase books and/or computer equipment; defray expenses for study abroad or other academic travel; or make it possible to participate in an internship, including over the summer, that is otherwise financially unfeasible.

Applications will open December 19, 2022, on Academic Works and close February 23, 2023, with notification of awardees sometime in March. Funds must be used before the end of Academic Year 2023-24 (summer ’23 projects ARE eligible!) and will not be disbursed without relevant documentation (e.g., letter from sponsoring organization). Recipients must have demonstrated need as determined by the University’s Financial Aid office and will be chosen based on that need, academic achievement in the major, and the strength of their proposal. Priority will be given to English majors (primary or secondary) in their sophomore or junior year.

More information will be available on Academic Works beginning December 19; questions about the Fund should be addressed to David Fleming at @email; questions about award qualifications and how to use Academic Works should be addressed to Julie Martel at @email.
