Between 2017-2022, the top seven industries of UMass English alums were Education (41.8%), Software, Tech, and Internet (21.3%), Publishing (9%), Broadcast Media and Telecommunications (8.2%), Non-Profit (7.4%), Financial Services (6.6%), and Advertising and Marketing (5.7%).

Our majors are leaders who are curious about the world, and they are constantly adapting.

The English major provides an excellent grounding for students who wish to pursue graduate work, and many of our majors go on to earn advanced degrees. With these degrees, they advance in their current career paths or gain entry to specialized professions. Their programs of study range from law to social work to digital information design/UX. English alums have also gone on to earn MEds or MAs in teaching, MLIS (library science), Masters degrees in creative writing, and MAs in publishing.
