Thesis committees are comprised of a chair and two committee members. A student’s thesis chair must be an MFA faculty member in their genre. One of the members must also be faculty in the student’s genre. The other should be an individual that the student and the thesis chair agree will add to the conversation (e.g. MFA faculty, other faculty, writers or poets in the greater community who might be willing to participate, etc.). Students may request an exception to this composition from the MFA Program Director in consultation with their thesis chair. As soon as the student’s committee is selected and each member has agreed to serve, the students should let the MFA Program Coordinator know. The Coordinator will submit the formal request to the Graduate School for appointment of the committee.
